Chef Cassondra celebrates Father’s Day with City Men Cook
In every culture through every generation, good food has always played a special role in bringing families together. That tradition continued this Father’s Day at the “City Men Cook” event, an annual celebration of food and fellowship held at Gilley’s in Dallas.
Chef Cassondra had the honor of advising more than 30 men, including many local business executives and community leaders, as they scaled up their favorite family recipes to feed a crowd of 1,000-plus people. Recognized as one of the largest urban Father’s Day celebrations in the country, City Men Cook is an extravaganza of culinary delights and entertainment, all designed to help fathers connect with their children and support longer-term charitable initiatives with the same purpose. In its 17th year, the event welcomed notable entertainers such as actor Obba Babatunde, Showtime at the Apollo host Kiki Shepard, and the Mavs ManiAACs dancers. “Celebrity tasters” including Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson, CW33’s K.C. Fox, and entertainment mogul Oscar Joyner voted on their favorite dishes of the day.
Beyond providing a great meal and a fun day for attendees, City Men Cook raised thousands of dollars for local charities that mentor young men who lack father figures in their lives, and help them grow up to be outstanding father themselves. Special thanks to Terry Allen, CEO of 1016 Media and the creator of City Men Cook, for devoting himself to such a worthwhile cause. The event keeps getting better every year.
